Situated in the village of Horbury in Wakefield, Elm Lodge Residential Care Home is registered with the Care Quality Commission. We offer Residential Care for 17 people aged 65 years or over.
Established for almost 30 years as a Residential Care Home, we specialise in providing peace of mind long term and short term (respite) care.

Elm Lodge circa 1980 Watercolour by John HollowayElm Lodge has a rich and eventful history charting back to the 1900’s when mill owners built the Lodge.
Over the years, Elm Lodge has been added to and by the 1980’s covered extensive grounds. At this point the Lodge was in the ownership of the Oddie family and was then sold onto the Robinson family.
In 1983, Elm Lodge was converted into a Residential Care Home. As needs changed, the vast grounds surrounding the Lodge were redeveloped in the late 80’s and 90’s to create several new homes for the local community.
The watercolour painting reproduced above was painted by artist John Holloway and depicts Elm Lodge at around 1980.
Elm Lodge circa 2008In 2005, Elm Lodge was owned by the Mortimer family who continued where the Robinson’s left off by maintaining Elm Lodge as a Residential Care Home for the Elderly.
During this period, the Mortimer’s maintained a two out of three star rating awarded by the Social Care Regulator CSCI (now the CQC). In addition, the Mortimer’s were chiefly responsible for achieving a 5 Star Food Safety and Hygiene award by Wakefield Council which the Home continues to hold today.

Elm Lodge 2011Today, Elm Lodge continues to thrive as a Residential Care Home for the Elderly and is a part of the local community as it has ever been.
Since being acquired by Alhambra Care Limited in May 2011, Elm Lodge has undergone an improvement programme to ensure the Home’s position as a leading provider in Social Care for years to come. Today we are proud of working towards ever increasing care standards, achieving personal best infection control inspection results as well as maintaining a good Food Safety and Hygiene award by Wakefield Council.

At Elm Lodge, we like to keep an open and transparent home.
Accordingly, we do not have an appointment system for our visitors – all we ask in return is to respect the Residents privacy and dignity during meal and rest times.
Elm Lodge PatioAll the rooms have been created especially for the elderly and are equipped with a 24/7 ‘Emergency Call Alarm System’ which alerts carers. The Lodge is secured by an Entry Control System.
We specialise in peace of mind care!
Our Residents choose what time they get out of and back into bed. Should any Resident need assistance with dressing or undressing, washroom assistance etc this will be arranged by the Care Team at a time that is convenient to the resident and in a manner reflecting their right to dignity and privacy.
Good FoodOur meal times are flexible and there is a wide choice of nutritious and balanced meals on offer specially prepared by our team of specially trained Cooks.
Special diets are catered for and our Resident can have an input as to what goes into the menu!
There are daily leisure and social activities co-ordinated by Elm Lodge.
Should our Resident have a particular suggestion for any social or similar event, then we will do our best to accommodate this.

Small items of personal furniture may be brought into the Lodge upon arrangement to make their space personal.
